A word from the founder

My Hungarian parents gave me the name Frances because for them it meant freedom.  I came to understand what this meant for former communist countries when I worked for the Open Society Institute.

I visited Ukraine in the nineties where we funded the translation of over 1000 western classics in the Humanities and Social Sciences and supported the emergence of new independent publishers.

Now Ukraine is fighting the battle for freedom for all of us. It is important that the global publishing community supports the aspirations of Ukrainian publishers standing shoulder to shoulder both during and after the war. That is why I created SUPRR based at the Central European University Press in Budapest and Vienna.

Access to knowledge strengthens societies. Publishers play a crucial role in making this happen and they do so every day in Ukraine.
